American Consulate,
Paramaribo, Surinam,
April 28, 1960.
Excellency :
In connection with the HIRAN Trilateration Survey I have the honor to request permission for the erection by the Inter American Geodetic Survey of a triangulation tower at McLennan’s Landing on the Corantijn River. The tower would require no permanent foundations and would be completely dismantled upon completion of the tellurometer observations. The observations would require approximately two weeks. A small, 12 in. x 12 in., concrete monument flush with the surface of the earth would be the only mark remaining. The data ascertained by these observations would be made a matter of record and will be forwarded to the Surinam authorities after final computations.
Authority is also requested for use of the Corantijn River by the Inter American Geodetic Survey for the erection of the tower at Mclennan’s Landing and of other towers to be erected on the British Guiana bank of the River. Preliminary arrangements have been made for the hire of a 40 foot inboard motor launch from Mr. R. D. Khan of Springland, British Guiana. The boat would operate between Springland and Orealla during the period May 1, 1960 to June 10, 1960.
Favorable consideration of these requests will be very much appreciated.
I have the honor to be, Sir,
Respectfully yours,
Elbert R. Williams
American Consul
His Excellency
Jan van Tilburg,
Governor of Surinam,
Paramaribo.
